By George I think they've got it!

We are three weeks away from track out, and to be honest we all could really use the break. However, until that time arises, we will be pushing hard to the end of first quarter. We have finished our Social Studies project and I was very impressed with our understanding of how a market economy impacts life in the United States. As always, we were pressed for time but the students not only received a real world lesson on how to budget money, but I think they learned a little bit about budgeting time as well. We are still working with decimals and I am happy with some of the improvement many of our students are making. We are rounding decimals and this requires a pretty keen understanding of place value. Those of us who participated are enjoy the fruits of our labor. I plead for parents to keep pushing and motivating our students to do more. In ELA we are finishing the book we started at the very beginning of the school year. "From the mixed-up files of Mrs Basil E. Frankweiler" has been a very meaty reading for us to pick apart. We are not only understanding how the characters change in the book but looking into comparing the character as they grow from the beginning to the end of the story. I hope to see you all tonight for Literacy night. If not please stay posted for more information about our fifth grade classroom.
