Welcome to our fifth grade classroom

Happy Monday. Wow, are we really in our fourth week already? It is amazing how time flies. We have completed our personal narratives and are moving on to personal memoirs. This is a really exciting time. Our class is learning how to use sensory details to bring their writings to life. In reading we are disecting "The Mixed up files of Mrs. Basil Frankweiler". We are using the text to help us understand how to infer and understand how charecters change over time. In science we have already designed vehicles and are learning more about inertia and the ways heat is transferred. We are wrapping up our first math unit with an assessment tomorrow. This may be one of the most important assessments of the year. I am assessing their ability to multiply multi-digit numbers, divide multi-digit numbers, and evaluate word problems. Nearly everything we do this year in math will be based off of these skills, along with a solid understanding of place value, which we will tackle in our next unit. Our next unit in math will be decimals. I know it may seem like alot but I know we are ready for the challange. I am so proud and honored to be the last elementary school teacher your child will have. I promise to do everything in my power to make this a successful and memorible school year for us all.

Sincerely,

Marvin Lenoid Pendergrass
